Benue govt seeks justice for 13-year-old rape victim


 




The Benue State Acting Governor, Engineer Benson Abounu, is seeking justice for the alleged rape and death of a 13-year-old home help, Elizabeth Ochanya.

Abounu who stated this in a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Mr  Ede Ogaba Ede, described the act as ‘inhuman, shameful and deserving of nothing less than appropriate punishment for the perpetrators.

Ochanya was allegedly raped by a 51-year-old senior lecturer in the Department of Catering and Hotel Management, Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, Mr. Andrew Ogbuja and his son Victor over a period of three years while she lived with them.

She died on October 17, 2018, due to Vesico Vagina Fistula (VVF) complications at the at Federal Medical Center, Makurdi.

The governor promised that the state government would give the police the necessary support toward the prosecution of the case to its conclusion, to serve as a deterrent to others with similar evil tendencies.

Abounu said, “The mere thought of sexually molesting a minor is in itself condemnable.

“Those who take advantage of vulnerable persons in the society commit unpardonable sins against God and humanity.”

He commiserated with the family of the late Ochanya.
