NIGERIAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION DEMANDS ADEQUATE SECURITY FOR HEALTH WORKERS; CONDEMNS KILLING OF HAUWA LIMAN

The Nigerian Medical Association has condemned the death of Hauwa Liman, the second health worker recently killed in captivity by the Boko Haram sect.

The victim was abducted alongside two other aid workers on the 1st March 2018 in the north-eastern town of Rann by the insurgent group and killed on the 15th of October.

In a statement by its publicity secretary, Dr Obitade Obimakinde the Nigerian Medical Association expressed concern over the senseless killing of the second humanitarian worker within the last one month, despite appeals from the federal governmen.

They have now tasked the government to ensure adequate protection of lives and property of those offering humanitarian services across the country.

The NMA further wants government to secure the release of other Boko Haram captives including Alice Loksha, and Leah Sharibu, a 15 year old student also abducted by the group in a separate incident in February.

The association has also commiserated with the International Committee of the Red Cross and the family of the deceased.
