NCDC Headquarters,  Abuja

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, (NCDC) has over the years taken responsibility of Nigeria’s Public health management.

It was established in 2011 as a government health agency, with the core mandate of detecting and responding to infectious disease outbreaks.

Having functioned effectively in this capacity for eight years, the federal government has now taken a step further to declare the agency a full-fledged health parastatal by signing into law an Act establishing it.

The NCDC as a parastatal now has the legal mandate to operate as a leading Public Health institution in Nigeria, this means that its work will be sustained and supported by government.

In a statement signed by the Chief Executive of the agency, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, this Act will provide Nigerians with an institute that has the capacity to ensure the country’s health security.

The agency is expected to continue ensuring that Nigerians are protected from all public health threat, especially global emerging infectious diseases.
